You know how important it is to write down your goals and how there’s tons of data to suggest it increases your chances of achieving them? This book is like that for the individual leader. I consider myself a student of leaders and leadership and, as a result, I read a lot of leadership books. I can honestly say this one was a pleasant surprise and not similar to anything I have read before. The beauty of the strategy here is that it doesn’t tell you how to be a leader. It doesn’t tell you how to change. It doesn’t provide a blueprint that may or may not be right for you (as so many books/programs do). What the author does is compel the reader to not just think about what kind of leader they want to be, but walks the reader through a series of self-reflection and learning exercises. In a clever manner the author helps the reader record this information and reflections in the book itself. Through this process the reader not only is forced to reflect on the leadership good and bad of themselves and others, but also build a roadmap that is truly personal. Who will this book benefit? In my opinion, as a seasoned leader, I would recommend to anyone from a soon-to-be leader, to an experienced one. I found the book caused me to reflect and think about my own leadership history, and ways to improve, in a manner I haven’t been compelled to in quite some time.Product details

This book is a great book for any leader who wants to lead authentically and make a difference through his/her leadership. The stories and exercises Dr. Tobin shares throughout his book make you think about how you are currently leading and gives you practical advice on how you can lead more effectively. As a leadership consultant, executive coach and trainer, I read a lot of leadership books. This book is one of the books I keep on my shelf for easy access and one of the books I recommend to my clients.
This book is a thought-provoking primer for those who are beginning to realize that leadership is not a solitary activity leaders need followers. Our ability to frame ourselves, our values and our vision for others has a huge effect on their decision to follow us. This is not a book about HOW to tell your leadership story, but rather how to dig inside yourself to work out the plot, characters, relationships, setting, narrative arc and so on that drive your actions. The book draws on references to key leadership texts and uses real-life examples and short exercises to help new leaders know themselves better, and to work out how their leadership story can be shaped and strengthened to energize, inspire and motivate others. This slim and affordable book is an easy and memorable read and could work well to support individuals or groups who are working out what kind of leaders they want to be
Practical advice on how to "pull it all together" and create your own leadership plan. I appreciated that the author kept the guidance clear and simple (without using all the industry buzzwords that will be outdated next year). He also includes many exercises to allow the reader to really apply the advice to their own lives. I gave it 4 stars because sometimes the language and sentence structure is a little basic for what I assume would be a fairly well-educated audience. Overall though, its an interesting take on leadership development.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this book is worth ten thousand leadership studies. As a consultant and as a faculty member who teachers working professional about organizational leadership - I can confidently say that Dr. Tobin's book offers new insight into our leadership practices. It's been a long time since a book has come along which evokes unique insights.
A truly helpful and insightful work, Tim captures the essence of leadership development and potential. As each chapter builds upon the previous one, the learner could decide to make this a fast-read (several hours), or view each chapter-ending as a challenge (several weeks).
